Christmas in Brno offers the chance to enjoy music, open-air cinema and themed evenings

Christmas in Brno festival offers visitors a packed cultural programme. Visitors can look forward to concerts by renowned artists, including bands Jelen, No Name and Monkey Business. The stage will also feature local clubs, children’s choirs and members of the public, who can join in with special karaoke evenings. What’s more, the entire programme is free of charge.

On Friday, November 14, the Brno-střed district, the main organiser of the Christmas markets in Brno, officially launched Christmas. A varied cultural programme is one of the main attractions of this year’s event, taking place at the Moravian Square (Moravské náměstí) near the Jošť Statue and at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), where the main Christmas stars perform. Bands such as Buty, No Name, Monkey Business, Jelen, O5 a Radeček, Rohony and many others will perform at the historic square.

As well as well-known performers, fans of the local club scene, alternative genres, choirs and traditional performances by children from primary and kindergartens will also find something to enjoy at the Brno markets. On Saturdays, visitors can watch the lighting of Advent candles at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), accompanied by Rorate Masses sung by choirs.

The rich musical programme is complemented this year by other attractive events that make the magical atmosphere more varied. For instance, the Brno-střed district is holding karaoke evenings for visitors, which are very popular. Adults, children and families can for free sing Christmas carols or their favourite songs.

There will also be an open-air cinema. Films include the Czech classic Obecná škola (The Elementary School), the fantasy musical Wonka, and the films Havel and Okupace (Occupation), which will be screened on 17 November, the national holiday.

The whole of the Brno Christmas programme will culminate on 31 December with a New Year’s Eve celebration, featuring an open-air cinema screening at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), followed by a concert by the band Lumeny.
