The Brno Christmas markets are open until the end of the year and attract thousands of visitors, even after Christmas Day. Most of the stands and attractions for children are open, as is the popular open-air cinema at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh). Thousands of people came out to enjoy the festive atmosphere on Christmas Day alone. Visitors can still spend time in all areas organised by the Brno-střed district, the main organiser of the Christmas markets in Brno. Stands are open at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), at the Moravian Square (Moravské náměstí), at the Bašta terrace and at a part of the Freedom Square (náměstí Svobody), where the town hall provides five stands, including the popular stand with a view. The installation at the Roman Square (Římské náměstí), the ice rink in the park at the Moravian Square (Moravské náměstí), and all attractions, including the Children’s Village, the Light Trail and the Ferris wheel, also remain open. There are also decorated trees and a nativity scene in the courtyard of the Brno-střed City Hall, as well as inflatable photo points.
“This year, 40 per cent more vendors took advantage of the opportunity to continue selling until the end of the year. While only some of them were open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, all participating vendors are now gradually opening. As well as stands selling food and hot drinks, people will find traditional products made by craftsmen and bearers of folk traditions at the squares. Visitors still have the opportunity to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere with their loved ones or buy last-minute gifts,” said Ludmila Oulehlová (ANO political party), first deputy mayor of the Brno-střed district.
The most varied programme can be found at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), the city’s largest market. Every day, there are open-air cinema screenings and themed music evenings. All of this will culminate on 31 December with a New Year’s Eve celebration. This will officially bring this year’s Christmas Brno to an end, making it the most successful in terms of attendance and economic returns in history.
