The Christmas atmosphere will remain in the centre of Brno until the end of the year. Most of the stands and attractions will remain open throughout the Christmas period. The programme will culminate on 31 December with New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The Christmas season in Brno began on 14 November, when vendors opened their stands at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), in the park and by the Jošt Statue at the Moravian Square (Moravské náměstí), as well as at the Freedom Square (náměstí Svobody) and at the Bašta terrace. In December, the Roman Square (Římské náměstí) also joined in the festivities, hosting the Christmas Festival of Bad Habits. The markets will continue in all of the aforementioned areas until 31 December.
„In recent years, we have been extending the Christmas season until the end of the year. Visitors appreciate being able to enjoy the markets without the rush and crowds during this period after Advent. Most of the stands at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh) will remain open, with food vendors, merchants and craftsmen in attendance. Some of them will even open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day,“ said Ludmila Oulehlová (ANO political party), the first deputy mayor of the Brno-střed district.
Visitors will find not only vendors in the squares, but also Christmas trees, decorations, and a open-air cinema screening films daily. Popular attractions such as the Children’s Village, the straw mountain, the installations on the Roman Square (Římské náměstí) and the inflatable photo points will also be there.
“Many attractions will remain open after the New Year. Until the end of January, people can visit the Light Trail at Bašty Street and enjoy the ice rink in the park at the Moravian Square (Moravské náměstí) until the spring holidays,” said Ing. arch. Vojtěch Mencl (ODS political party), the mayor of the Brno-střed district.
Christmas in Brno will culminate on 31 December with a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh). Visitors can look forward to an open-air cinema screening of the well-known films Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and West Side Story, a concert by the band Lumeny, and a New Year’s toast.
