Visitors rated Brno’s Christmas markets in a survey

The Brno-střed district gained valuable insights when it commissioned Masaryk University students to conduct the survey. The results showed that visitors most appreciated the hot drink cups featuring a cheerful dragon, the Children’s Village and the umbrellas in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall.

On 14 November, Brno welcomed visitors to its Christmas markets for the first time, when most of the markets in the city centre opened. Since then, thousands of people have made their way to the square — and now students from Masaryk University have set out to meet them. The students asked visitors to fill out questionnaires, asking what they liked about the Christmas markets and how they could be improved in future.

Every year, we organise a survey in cooperation with students to gather information about the Christmas markets. It is important for us to get feedback from the public. This enables us to continuously develop the event.  More than 80 per cent of those surveyed said that their favourite thing about Christmas in Brno was the returnable cups. They ranked first in the visitors’ vote overall,” said Ludmila Oulehlová (ANO political party), 1st Deputy Mayor of the Brno-střed district.

Second place went to the Light Trail on Bašty Street. This was followed by the Children’s Village at the Cabbage Market (Zelný Trh), the umbrella Installation at the Old Town Hall and the Christmas Tram. The survey was conducted during the last week of November in all areas where Christmas markets were held. A total of 3,000 people filled out the questionnaire, selecting their favourite attractions and answering open-ended questions.

People most often said that public toilets should be more clearly signposted and that they would like to see outdoor heaters at the markets. There were also frequent requests to expand the food courts. We will evaluate the suggestions and try to incorporate them into next year’s markets,’ added Deputy Mayor Ludmila Oulehlová.
