Christmas is supposed to be a time of peace and quiet, but the reality is often different.
There is the hustle and bustle of shopping and cleaning, the overeating and stress of visits, and finally the arguments with family. Does that sound more like a parade of human vices than a celebration of the most wonderful time of the year? Let’s change that!
This year, the Christmas Festival of Bad Habits, held in the heart of the city, offers an alternative to the current consumerist Christmas for Brno residents and visitors. It provides an opportunity to slow down, take a breath and find some inner peace.
The project builds on the National Collection of Bad Habits by artist Kateřina Šedá, who has spent a long time mapping Czech bad habits. This time, however, it’s not just about acknowledging our weaknesses; it’s about overcoming them.
Thanks to this, the Roman Square (Římské náměstí) appears on the map of Brno Christmas events for the first time this year. Throughout the year, people on the margins of society meet here. This is why the main theme of this space for us is barriers and how to overcome them.
The architectural design is the work of PEER COLLECTIVE architects. Using large-format curtains, they have symbolically divided the square into a series of barriers that visitors must overcome to reach the centre of the action. The focus is not on obstacles, but on providing inspiration for personal transformation. It is a small personal ritual on the path to becoming a better version of yourself. And that is the highlight of our entire programme!
„I’ll start tomorrow“ is not just a festival; it’s a new beginning.
